Sherwood Presbyterian Church has a vision to demonstrate love of neighbors as we love ourselves, continuing to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ far and wide, eagerly and actively seeking to be God's hands and feet, always giving glory to our heavenly Father.
Sherwood's Vision Poem
From humble beginnings in 1874,
out of a love for and a desire to spread God's Word,
Hardworking farm men and women envisioned their
families in Christian community in Gray's Creek.
Sherwood stood, a proud monument to the power of
God and his faithful people
Nurturing its children into
men and women of faith.
Vast fields of cotton and tobacco
giving way to homes,
subdivisions, businesses and trailer parks
Filled with people of many colors,
languages and occupations.
People once enslaved, now free;
Military who protect and defend;
The poor, the wealthy, living side by side;
These are now the fertile fields of Sherwood
waiting to be planted with God's Word and Love.
God calls to us:
Till the soil of lost souls with Love,
providing them with
Hope to nurture and grow.
Seasons pass, landscapes change
Sherwood remains God's beacon,
Calling, encouraging seeking ALL:
The hurting, lost, those needing love, desiring family.
A place to belong and grow
into what God created us to be.
Working hard in the new fields of Gray's Creek:
Getting dirty planting God's seeds;
Watering the fields with God's "living" water;
Shining the light of God's Love through us.
Demonstrating love of neighbors as we love ourselves,
Continuing to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ far and wide,
Eagerly and actively seeking to be God's hands and feet,
ALWAYS giving glory to our heavenly Father.
How do you see yourself helping to plant God's seeds of hope, peace, love and grace in the Gray's Creek community?
